Yes, I’m an advocate of open-source and free software. Having made the switch entirely to Linux, it upsets me when I encounter proprietary file formats that require jumping through hoops to convert them to a usable format.
Mr Gates, I hope you’re happy about the headaches you are causing people that have to convert Microsoft Works files to something a bit more open…
Oh, I forgot… you retired.

of people that fall into this category. Some I work with daily and others I just run into occasionally - I think some folks that fall into the category of this quote just enjoy getting a reaction of those affected by their comments and words… I try NOT to let that happen.
“People who are brutally honest get more satisfaction out of the brutality than out of the honesty.”
– Peter F. Drucker
Another quote from the Information Week emails I receive regularly… man, if they keep throwing out quotes like this, I may have to actually read some of the articles.

A great quote of the day… found this one in the ITWeb emails that I receive.
“There is nothing so useless as doing efficiently that which should not be done at all.”

A pretty good joke I received via email this morning… keep in mind that while to don’t necessarily agree with either party most of the time - and don’t get hung up on labeling myself as a Democrat or Republican… the part about people ‘doing for themselves’ in this joke strikes a positive note for me…
## [ BEGIN - POLITICAL HUMOR]
I ran into a friend of mine’s little girl the other day. I asked her what she wanted to be when she grew up and she replied, ‘I want to be President!’ Both of her parents are liberal Democrats and were standing
there. So then I asked her, ‘If you were President what would be the first thing you would do?’
She replied, ‘I’d give houses to all the homeless people.’
‘Wow - what a worthy goal.’ I told her, ‘You don’t have to wait until you’re President to do that. You can come over to my house and mow, pull weeds, and sweep my yard, and I’ll pay you $50. Then I’ll take you over to the grocery store where this homeless guy hangs out, and you can give him the $50 to
use toward a new house.’
Since she is only 6, she thought that over for a few seconds. While her Mom glared at me, she looked me straight in the eye and asked, ‘Why doesn’t the homeless guy come over and do the work, and you can just pay him the $50?’
And I said, ‘Welcome to the Republican Party.’
Her folks still aren’t talking to me.
## [END - POLITICAL HUMOR]
I work hard, and don’t complain when someone doesn’t give me something that I haven’t earned…

I’m taking on the (slow and sometimes painful) process of migrating some of our in-house admin and sales employees to some open source software: Linux OS, OpenOffice instead of MS Office, etc… and found ran across a great article about envelope printing in open office.
If you are looking for a quick and simple envelope template for OpenOffice, be sure to give this a read. I absolutely despise paying for software that has a free alternative - articles such as this make it easy to switch.
